Beginning Riding Lessons (Part 1)

Choose from our three handpicked party packages, each ensuring an interactive, horse-filled experience. 

This offers a perfect opportunity for party hosts to create a unique and magical setting for their celebration. Available for $350, it welcomes up to 10 people to enjoy party treats and fun in our inviting picnic area, with the flexibility to personalize the experience with their decorations. Should your list exceed 10, an additional fee of $40 per guest will ensure no one misses out on the fun. 

At White Dog Farm. girls learn what it takes to properly care for and maintain horses including:

  • Basic Horsemanship 
  • Animal Care

Spending time with horses is not only a lot of fun: it also helps children build self esteem and confidence. Your troop’s trip to White Dog Farm is a great way work toward the Brownie Horse & Pony Try-It and the Girl Scout Horse Fan and Horse Rider Badges.

Children learn what it takes to properly care for and safely ride horses, including proper safety measures, basic horsemanship, and animal care. Spending time with horses is not only a lot of fun, but it also helps boys build self-esteem and confidence.

Bring your Cub Scout Den or Pack to White Dog Farm, where they’ll have the opportunity to experience a working horse farm and earn their Horseback Riding Belt Loop and Sports Pin.

Horseback Riding Belt Loop Requirements Do all three:

    Explain five safety precautions for when you are near a horse.
    With help from an experienced horse handler, demonstrate how to safely mount and ride a horse and then how to safely dismount the horse. 3. Go on a supervised horseback ride for at least 20 minutes. Remember to wear a helmet that is approved for horseback riding.

Horseback Riding Sports Pin Requirements Do any five
(recommended activities at White Dog Farm are highlighted):

    Leam about three famous horses. Explain why these horses were well-known.
    Using pictures of these different animals, explain to your den or family the difference between a horse, pony, mule, and donkey.
    Explain how a horse is measured and what a “hand” equals when measuring a horse.
    Using a picture of a horse, point out the following main parts of a horse: forehead, muzzle, mane, withers, point of hip, knee, hoof, and root of tail.
    5 Describe three different breeds of horses and explain what special feature makes each breed different from other breeds.
    Using photos or pictures you have drawn, explain to your den or family at least three different ways that horses can help us.
    Name five things that are healthy for a horse to eat.
    Tell why it is important to wear an approved riding helmet when you go horseback riding.
    Photograph or draw a picture of the saddle you used for the ride you took to earn the belt loop.
    With your parent or adult partner, visit a veterinarian who cares for horses and large animals. Write the answers to three questions you ask him or her.
    Spend at least 15 minutes before and after your ride getting to know your horse by talking calmly to it and stroking it slowly.
    Go on a supervised horseback ride for at least 30 minutes. Be sure to wear a riding helmet. Show that you can safely mount and dismount the horse.

 Looking for all ages to work with horses, groom, muck stalls, and love on horses. Help with activities on occassions. It is a beautiful farm in the foothills of North Georgia and our horses are so gentle! You do not need to be an expert, we will guide you. Come horse around and experience the Real nature of horses.

White Dog Farm has several horses available for onsite lease. We have ponies that may suit beginner to intermediate riders as well as other horses(and mule!) that could be fun challenges for more experienced riders!

Price is ($200 per month for a 3 month intro and $250 if a good match and continue lease) including one lesson per month which may include training, groundwork, and riding.

Interacting with horses is enjoyable and also boosts your self-esteem and confidence. After the activities, Participants can relax and eat lunch in our shaded picnic area.
